Advertisements
You may be thinking about the ads on this site. Maybe you don’t like the idea of ads. I’m not a fan of ads myself, which is why I’ve really thought about how to present them on The BetsyG-Spot.
From the start, I’d planned this site as a for-profit endeavor, because I’d like to earn enough from the writing I love such that I can turn down work I don’t. I get paid to write; as my own boss of The BetsyG-Spot, I hope to pay myself (and someday others). Advertising, rather than paid subscriptions, is a part of the model.
But I think it’s important that my readers don’t think I would prostitute my writing. So I promise you I will never write a piece just to sell something. That’s not art. I also will not endorse any product I don’t believe in. There are many ways to advertise on the Internet, and I’ve been careful to select advertising programs that are in sync with the content and style of each page on this site.
That being said, I am going to try context-sensitive ads based on page content and see how I like them. If I don’t like them, they’ll come off, so please be patient as I evaluate them.
I hope you come to view ads on this site not as a necessary evil, but as an avenue to purchasing a product that interests you or that comes to interest you as you read my pieces. It’s that harmonious experience I’m shooting for: the product you want offered when you want it.
Please let me know if you have any issues with an advertising model I use on this site. It’s important to me that the ads do not detract from your reading experience, and my hope is that they will enhance it.
