Wow, it has been a busy week, and it just keeps going. I don’t feel like I’ve stopped moving all week, and certainly not all day. Part of it is the price I’m paying for having a jock for a son; he already has baseball practice (indoors). You read that right; he’s starting baseball before Spring Training even begins for the Red Sox, while still finishing out the intramural basketball season. All foreign territory for me.
Tonight I made a rather disappointing dinner. I’d bought some Rock Cornish Game Hens last week—something I’ve never made—and was looking forward to finding a recipe and cooking them up. Tonight was the night, and I didn’t really have a recipe, but furthermore I totally ran out of time. So I threw them in the oven with some salt and garlic powder sprinkled on them, and then had to split before they were even done. I served them almost two hours after they came out of the oven. The meat actually tasted pretty good but it was hardly the elegant dinner I envisioned when I bought the things.
Next week is school vacation week, but I’m afraid there’s nothing very exciting on the docket. I’d like to try to take my son Matthew to look at some colleges (yipes!). But really the “fun” thing will be doing my taxes for real this weekend and lamenting how much money I owe to various parties, and then doing the mental juggling act of figuring out how everything will get paid. It is either more or less possible than I think it is; I will find that out once I sit down with all the numbers. I’m sort of looking forward to doing it so I’ll know what’s what and can plan a budget for this year. I’m sort of not looking forward to it for the obvious reasons, namely that I’d rather be doing something else.
I hope you’re not disappointed if I cut out now rather than jawing aimlessly. I was up late last night watching back-to-back episodes of Big Love on HBO (I love my On Demand, which I’ll probably have to get rid of after the budget fiasco). Naughty girl. I’m sometimes lukewarm on that show, and there are a few storylines I could do without, but there were some powerful yet quirky moments last night that I quite enjoyed. Chloe Sevigny needs to get more air time. I find Jeanne Tripplehorn somewhat less annoying than she was in Waterworld, but her character makes me want to smack her fairly often. Which is perhaps a testament to her acting ability, but if you’ve seen Waterworld, you might say “not so much.”
I think I’m breaking my promise not to jaw too much. I’m thinking of not posting on Monday because of the holiday, and putting out a new Sex in the Suburbs on Tuesday instead, so no Wheel of Fortune next week. We’ll see. If you don’t see a new post on Monday, you’ll know why.
Hey, have a great long weekend. A lot of people seem to be going away, so if you’re going somewhere, have a great time, and feel free to tell me about your trip—before or after. Thanks for reading.
